“There looms a palace above the sky of the nation. Not one person can remember when it has been there, but only that their God resides in that colossal building. God, however, does not bless its people. For every 12 years, the land becomes arid; animals become beasts that rampage the earth, and any remaining food disintegrates into thin air. It is then that the people have to celebrate and embrace God’s existence. Dancers selected and trained at a young age now offer their bodies to God at the ceremony. They are the key to establishing a connection with God’s residence, to soothe its anger and restore harmony in the land.”
The truth remains hidden still.
In my concept, the land is controlled by one single God that lives off the belief of its people. However, it does not want to govern the people and only wants solitude. The land is then ruled by the humans themselves through an oligarchy, and divided into several cities. Every 12 years, God needs to reassure its status amongst its people and gather information for future regulation by rampaging the earth. To soothe its “anger” (as humans assume), they put together a grand ceremony that serves as the key to a physical connection with God. Only the dancers are allowed to enter and presumably, they then become the servants of God. However, the truth is that God lets them go after knowing some current events and the aristocracy of the nation believes that their bodies have been blessed so they secretly slaughter them and eat them for fortune. The protagonists of this story will then embark on a journey to learn this truth.
